In one month, Glassfiber Products has built a total of 200 meters of walkways – which must be a new record for the company. The walkways have been delivered to a huge land-based smolt facility in Tjuin.
«"Our team has done a fantastic job," says project engineer Ivar André Olsen. "Skilled people, solid routines and extensive experience meant that we were able to complete this job in such a short time. We have delivered a lot to fish farming market in recent years. The production and assembly of footbridges is something we can do blindfolded.»
On the chop
Production was almost underway before the drawings were even on the table. The workshop got started quickly, and with all the necessary materials in stock, all parts could be produced in a short time. This ensured a quick and smooth assembly. After just under a month, Glassfiber Produkter was able to deliver 10 footbridges to SalMar Tjuin.
The footbridges are taking shape in the workshop.
High quality over time
The fiberglass reflects the high demands placed on fish farming. The material must withstand humid and corrosive environments, be robust and adaptable to the facility. High strength does not have to mean high weight, and the lightness of fiberglass makes it convenient to handle, transport and install. The fiberglass ensures that the walkways will maintain high quality, even over a long period of time.

«"We are also very satisfied with Glassfiber Products," says Geir Tevasvold, project manager at Consto. "There has been good and clear communication throughout and good project planning along the way. We ended up with the right solutions in an impressively short time."»
One of the world's largest smolt plants
The footbridges lead to another gigantic fish farm. SalMar is building one of the world's largest and most advanced hatchery facilities at Tjuin in Steinkjer municipality. The facility has a size of 17,000 square meters and will be able to accommodate 50 million smolt. The first phase of construction is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
