Sustainable properties and
lower footprint

CO2-the footprint of composites is in many cases lower compared to other materials. The explanation lies in properties such as low weight, high mechanical strength and long durability.

A key goal for us is to create sustainable solutions in fiberglass that can replace materials that are more environmentally damaging. We see the potential in the market where our products can replace traditional materials while simultaneously reducing emissions in the long term.

Climate footprint is becoming increasingly important to consider when choosing materials. There are four key areas where fiberglass excels:

Durability

Maintenance

Transportation

Installation

Long life

The strength of composites ensures that we can create product solutions that perform over the long term. With solid designs and durable products, we maximize the lifespan of the material. Long-term solutions mean fewer replacements and necessary upgrades.

Maintenance-friendly

Composites require minimal maintenance. The work that needs to be done to maintain materials requires energy and leads to increased emissions. Maintenance typical of other materials will not be necessary for composite products.

Easy transportation

Low weight is also an important keyword. The lightness of the material is less burdensome during transport, requires less energy and results in lower emissions. This applies to both long-distance transport, but also to shipping to workplaces and other relocations.

Easy installation

Lightweight materials are easy to handle and require fewer resources for installation. Large, specialized, and energy-intensive machinery is not required, and products can often be customized on site.

Composite, steel and aluminum

European Composites Federation has collected information about fiberglass and CO2-emissions. The document refers to research comparing composites to steel and aluminum. The materials were evaluated on production, forming and recycling options. Studies show that composites can have up to 54% less global warming potential (GWP) compared to steel and aluminum.

OUR SUSTAINABILITY GOALS

Together we must move society and business in a sustainable direction. The UN has defined a list of goals the world must strive for to become more sustainable. We have identified the goals where we can make a difference.

GOOD HEALTH AND QUALITY OF LIFE

At Glassfiber Produkter, employees should feel safe, be healthy and enjoy their work. That is why work around safety, facilitation and unity is essential for us.

The sustainability goal is about ensuring good health and promoting quality of life for everyone. Safety has top priority, and we continuously work to identify and prevent risks. Protective equipment is always available and in top condition, and all machines are equipped with safety solutions that prevent injuries. The team is also kept up to date with courses and training.

We do what we can to keep our team healthy and fit. We want to enjoy our work, which is why we organize activities and events that create a social and inclusive work environment. This strengthens the bond and builds a culture in the company that we are proud of.

DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

One of our most important tasks is to facilitate a permanent, safe and inclusive workplace for our skilled employees.

The sustainability goal is about promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable growth, full employment and decent work for all. Glassfiber Products will contribute to a decent and inclusive working life of good quality. This requires stable operations and a healthy economy.

We focus on young people and those with little experience, and through us they can get a foothold in the working world. This group has great value, and can become an important resource for the company.

INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE

With fiberglass, we can create innovative and robust solutions that will stand the test of time. That is why we aim to use more fiberglass as solutions within infrastructure.

The sustainability goal is about building solid infrastructure with sustainable industrialization and innovation. Fiberglass products have high strength and a long lifespan. This provides solid solutions that last a long time, require little maintenance and lead to lower greenhouse gas emissions. The versatility of fiberglass allows us to tailor solutions with a high degree of accuracy, and it will require fewer replacements and upgrades over time. Fiberglass can replace other less environmentally friendly solutions used today.

RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION

We want to do the most with the least. This means that the materials and products we use should be utilized to the fullest.

The sustainability goal is about ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns. We see leftovers and offcuts from production as a resource. We reuse surplus materials in new projects. Solid routines give us an overview of what leftovers we have and how they can be best utilized in future production. This way, we avoid throwing away a lot of usable material. The material that can no longer be used is recovered in other ways. It is recycled into new raw materials or used as energy for other types of production.

Our products meet strict requirements in many areas. For example, none of our products contain harmful chemicals as mentioned in the Reach regulation.

STOP CLIMATE CHANGE

The use of environmentally friendly materials, efficient use of raw materials and monitoring our own emissions are among our contributions to the fight against climate change.

The UN calls for immediate action to combat climate change and its consequences. We are doing our part to keep our emissions down. We have solid routines for how to make the best use of our materials and how to handle unusable waste. Compared to several other materials, fiberglass has a smaller climate footprint. Fiberglass's high strength and low weight make transportation easier, and require less installation work. Fiberglass requires little maintenance and has a long lifespan, all of which are factors that result in lower emissions.

We also monitor our own emissions such as electricity consumption, fuel and residual waste. This gives us better insight and makes it easier to make more environmentally friendly choices in our daily operations.

COLLABORATION TO ACHIEVE GOALS

We participate in arenas with others in the search for better and more environmentally friendly solutions. This includes what and how we produce, what it is used for and how it can be recycled in the best possible way.

The sustainability goal is about strengthening partnerships to achieve sustainable development. Glassfiber Produkter collaborates with many players in several areas. Together with Rogaland Gjenvinning, we take care of the waste from production.

Ecofiber is a supplier of recycled fiberglass. They produce granules from old boats and other fiberglass that we have used for many of our projects.

We are also looking to other arenas where we can meet players in the same industry. This way we can collaborate and exchange knowledge on important issues around how to best contribute to sustainable development.
