Glassfiber Products is carrying out pipe inspection on the production vessel Jotun FPSO. The vessel has several fiberglass pipe systems that were installed back in 1998 and 1999. The inspection is being carried out in collaboration with Odda Plast ASIt's exciting to see how the fiberglass has held up after so long.
"We know that fiberglass is an excellent material for these pipe systems. Fiberglass does not corrode, which the inspection also shows. The material provides a long service life as you can see in the pictures," says Elling Stangeland, general manager of Stangeland Glassfiber Produkter AS.

Long life
The choice to use fiberglass was not accidental. Fiberglass pipes have a low weight, which makes the pipes easy to install and handle. The material is also very versatile and effective. Fiberglass prevents corrosion, which gives the pipe systems a long service life.
Major upgrade of Jotun
The owners of the ship, Vår Energi, bet big on extending its service life. Jotun FPSO has been producing oil in the North Sea for 20 years, and will continue work on the Balder field after the upgrade. The renewal work is taking place at Rosenberg Worly's shipyard in Stavanger, and the ship is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022.
Inspection
The pipe systems were manufactured by Future Pipe Industries and installed on the Jotun FPSO in 1998 when the ship was built. Based on thorough expertise and long experience, Glassfiber Products was selected to carry out the inspection job, which consists of visual inspection and video inspection.
"We have a good collaboration with Rosenberg and carry out a thorough inspection. We are very pleased to see how well the fiberglass has performed. It shows exactly the quality of the material," explains Stangeland.
