Salmon evolution 2 continues with fiberglass in construction phase 2

In 2021, Glassfiber Produkter AS undertook its largest project to date with Salmon Evolution Phase 1.
The company is now engaged in Phase 2, and fiberglass will be even more prominent at the massive facility in Indre Harøy.
Production is now set to increase from approximately 8,000 tons to an impressive 18,000 tons per year.

New major contract

Three years after signing the contract for Phase 1, we have now signed a new major contract with the new general contractor, HENT AS, for Salmon Evolution Phase 2. Glassfiber Produkter AS will once again deliver safe and durable fiberglass solutions to one of Norway’s largest land-based aquaculture facilities.

HENT AS highlights their experiences from Phase 1 as one of the key reasons why we have been selected again as a supplier:

– When selecting suppliers, key considerations include execution capabilities, reference projects, and price. Based on our experience from the first phase and Glassfiber Produkter AS’s extensive expertise, we are confident that the product meets the project’s requirements, particularly regarding corrosion resistance. Says Marius Rønning Svorkås, Project Manager at HENT AS, about choosing Glassfiber Produkter AS as a supplier.

Why fiberglass?

Since 2021, the aquaculture industry has truly recognized the benefits of fiberglass materials. Fiberglass offers a range of properties that directly address many of the challenges faced by aquaculture facilities, both at sea and on land.

The material’s durability was highlighted when we asked Salmon Evolution about their experience with fiberglass from Phase 1:

– The fiberglass products are excellent and withstand the demanding environment of our facility. We save both time and concerns since fiberglass requires minimal maintenance, says Oddvar Repstad, Fish Welfare Manager at Salmon Evolution, regarding the advantages of the fiberglass material.

– We are very satisfied with what Glassfiber Produkter has delivered. Fiberglass is an easy material to work with and can be adapted on-site as needed. It’s great not having to worry about rust, says Lars Petter Nora, Assistant Project Manager at Salmon Evolution.

Stor etterspørsel betyr flere folk

Since we completed Phase 1, Glassfiber Produkter AS has delivered fiberglass solutions to several large aquaculture facilities across Norway. Through this work, we have gained valuable experience that helps us continuously improve.

Our team has also grown. To meet the increasing demand, we have hired skilled production workers, designers, and a dedicated project manager.

At the end of 2024, Michael Stephansen joined as Project Manager at Glassfiber Produkter AS and will play a key role in leading the Salmon Evolution Phase 2 project.

“Great to see that our solutions are so competitive”

Never before have we delivered fiberglass solutions to so many different projects. As a relatively new employee, Michael finds it exciting to work with a “new” material that can compete with traditional solutions.

– This is a major project for any company, and it’s really exciting to bring it to completion when competing with other skilled players in the market. It’s great to see that our solutions are so competitive, says Michael about the project.

Being chosen as a supplier once again, he believes, is a great vote of confidence in the company.

– It’s fantastic that the solution and installation from Phase 1 were so well received by the client that we get to be part of the next phase. I believe that the overall quality of our previous deliveries has made us the preferred supplier for Phase 2.

Extensive delivery

The project is large and includes a wide range of our products. A significant part of our work on the project involves the fabrication and installation of walkways and handrails inside the fish tanks. We are using the same proven solution from Phase 1, where the walkways are attached to the inside walls of the tanks while also being secured to the ceiling.

We will also supply platforms and staircases to various locations within the facility. In other words, it will be difficult to move around the site without encountering fiberglass materials.

All hands on deck

To succeed with a project of this scale, close collaboration is crucial. Michael is just one of the brilliant minds from Glassfiber Produkter AS involved in the project.

– We have many skilled people with extensive experience in supplying the aquaculture industry. Our sales team, designers, production workers, and installers all contribute valuable knowledge. I believe this is the key to delivering great solutions that ensure customer satisfaction with both the process and the final result.

We are excited to get started!

The project will continue throughout 2025 and into mid-2026. We are already well underway with the design of the installation in the first tanks. Installation work is set to begin in May 2025.
Michael is excited to take on his first major project at Glassfiber Produkter AS, and with the full support of the company behind him, we can confidently say that this will be an incredible success!
